Rhythmics · Diversity · Young to Old
From October 16 to 17, 2026, the Institute for Music and Movement Education/Rhythmics and Music Physiology at the mdw (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) will host a conference dedicated to the diverse practical applications of rhythmics. Rhythmics practitioners (students and graduates), those interested in rhythmics, individuals from related fields, and cooperation partners are invited to gain professional insights, exchange ideas, and network.
Workshops, lectures, panel discussions, poster sessions, performances and a celebratory gathering will focus on the artistic and pedagogical aspects of rhythmics – for, by, and including people of all ages (pedagogy, adult education, and geragogy) and with diverse needs. The diversity of rhythmics offerings and fields of activity in various contexts and from different perspectives, both in practice and theory, will be showcased.
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, performances of music and movement will take place, during which conference participants and mdw students will celebrate 50 years of FIER (La Fédération Internationale des Enseignants de Rythmique), the international association of rhythmics teachers.
Numerous opportunities for dialogue – both for getting acquainted with one another and forging new contacts, as well as for collegial reunions and alumni gatherings – will address the current impact of the field of rhythmics and strengthen it for the future.
